Treasurer Report Treasurer Position Vote: We had a special vote during the meeting to have Becky Brownlee take over the position of Treasurer from Belinda Dornbos. Transaction List Report: Becky B. passed out the Transaction List Report. Everything looks good.
Guard Report State Championships: Congratulations to Winter Guard for taking 3rd place at State Championships! Bingo: They will continue through the end of June and re-evaluate the situation at that time. They were paid in March which included December, January, February, and March. They will be paid every 3 months from now on. Guard Closet: The guard closet has been cleaned out.
Fundraising Report Invesco: Jim Whitaker has stepped down this year. Leigh Romano will take over scheduling workers. Cathy Bruce will be Stand Manager. She will need a back-up to help. Danette Spitzlberger will be the Cashier Manager. Cherry Creek Arts Festival: Jody signed up again. Kids 14 & 15 years old can work. It will take place over the 4th of July. Please contact Jody Tafoya if you or your child would like to work this event. Spots are first come, first serve. Fruit Sales: Fruit sale forms will be given out at the end of year banquet. Parents of 9th/10th graders: Parents of 9th/10th graders are needed to head up fundraisers. Jody will send out emails asking for people to volunteer. It is best to learn what needs to be done while the current chairperson is still here. Financial Planning (April 27th) 7:00 pm in Auditorium: This is an easy fundraiser. You just need to come and listen to a 90 minute financial planning presentation. They will pay $15 per person. Those students who have friends and relatives come will have $15 go into their student accounts. Adults must be over 21 to attend and get credit. Invite your friends and neighbors! Shelving: Rob Osgard showed possible plans for shelves in the band hallway. There were other suggestions to have shelves on top of lockers and above the sink in the band room. Tammy will check with district.
Music Director’s Notes (Tammy Ahmed) Winter Percussion: Congratulations to Winter Percussion for being 2010 Colorado World Concert Class State Champions! Denver Brass Concert: Denver Brass performs at schools for a fee. They get grants so it should be cheaper. They also do workshops. We may possibly have them come and play during the Gala Concert. ?
Dazzle Club (Jazz Band)-May 17th: The Jazz Band will perform at the Dazzle Club on May 17th. They will be selling tickets for $10 each. They will get to play at the club and with a professional Jazz Band. End of Year Banquet: The Annual Music Awards Banquet will be May 7th in the Commons Area at BCHS. Check in will start at 6:00pm with dinner at 6:30pm. Orchestra Contest: April 22nd Jazz Contest (UNC): April 23rd Solo/Ensemble Contest: April 24th Elitch’s (Saturday May 8th) Rehearsals: April 27th (at BCHS 3-5 pm)-Percussion Only April 29th (at Carmody 3-4:30pm) Gala Concert (May 11th & 12th): Rehearsals are May 4th and May 10th. Graduation (May 21st-2:00 pm)

Disneyland Meeting Summary March 9, 2010

Flight Information (Southwest Airlines) March 28th-Flight leaves DIA at 9:20am and arrives in LA at 10:55am. Photo ID is a must (driver’s license, passport, or school ID) and needs to be kept with them at all times. Students must provide own transportation to DIA. Arrive at DIA on March 28th no later than 7:20am. Everyone will meet by Southwest Airlines Baggage Check-In. Donna Hoffman (Representative) will be there to help with check-in. Two bags may be carried on (backpack & instrument). Smaller instruments like flutes or clarinet could be put in a backpack. Instruments in soft cases should be carried on if they fit the required measurements. Valve oil or any other liquid should be checked in. Ask at check-in if unsure. Instruments in hard cases could be checked in. Do not lock cases. A bungee cord or other similar strap is recommended to put around the instrument. No knives (including Swiss Army Knife /pocket knives) or weapons of any kind will be allowed.
April 1st-Flight leaves LA at 8:20pm and arrives at DIA at 11:30pm. Students must picked up 30 minutes after arrival time.
Instrument Damage during Travel If any instruments are damaged during travel, let Ms. Ahmed know. She can get in touch with a Tour Director who will be able to help.
Insurance for Instruments Check with your insurance to see if instrument is covered under Homeowners Insurance—you can get a rider also.
Packing Pack as light as possible and allow extra room for souvenirs to be brought back. Casual clothes will be worn except during performance. Bring a light jacket. Students will need to dress in layers. They will be out all day and not return to hotel until around 8:00-8:30 at night. Average temperatures are highs of upper 60ºs / 70ºs and lows in the 50ºs. Check weather forecast for Anaheim before you leave.
Meals/Souvenirs Breakfast at hotel is included. Students will need money for 4-6 meals (approx $15 per meal). $15 food vouchers will be given to everyone while in the park. It is to be used for a full meal. Do not use for drinks or small food item. No change will be given. Some dinners will also be included during the trip. The amount to be sent for souvenirs is up to you. It is recommended to send a total of $150 to be used for both meals and souvenirs. It is also up to you how you want to send the money (traveler’s checks, cash, visa gift cards, etc).
Parks There will be two parks that the kids will go to: California Adventure Park and Disneyland. Toy Story Mania is very popular at California Adventure Park. Arrive early. Groups of chaperones and kids will enter and exit parks as a group. No student is to leave on their own. Chaperones will hold all passes and be in the park the whole time. They will also have student’s cell phone numbers. Kids can go anywhere they want in the park as long as they are with someone else from BCHS. Be safe and smart. Do not talk to strangers.
Disney Performance and Clinic The kids will participate in a music clinic. They will record a piece that will be used in a Disney movie. DVDs will not be given out due to copyrights. They will also perform in the park. Disney is very strict. Students must look sharp and be dressed exactly alike in full concert dress. Guys - Tuxedo shirt, bowtie, black pants, black socks, and black dress shoes. Do not wear anything under the white shirt that is colorful or has writing on it. Girls – Black dress, nylons, and black dress shoes. Hair must look nice, well done, and must be natural in color. No jewelry, nail polish, or flip-flops will be allowed during the performance. The instruments will be kept in the buses after the performance.
Rehearsals for Disney Performance Rehearsal dates are 3/23; 3/24; 3/25; and 3/26 (3-5pm). All students must attend and be well prepared. There will be five pieces of music - one for orchestra, one for band, and three that will be performed together.
Prescriptions and Over the Counter Medication If your student needs to take any medicine while on the trip, all prescriptions and over the counter medicine need to be listed on medical form. Mark everything with student’s name. Write on form if your student can carry the medicine or if an adult needs to hold onto it. Attach a copy of the insurance card to medical form.
District Field Trip Policy Students must adhere to district policies. They must have passing grades and no attendance problems. They must also behave and dress according to policies. Any student that breaks the rules will be sent home at parent’s expense.

Bear Creek Instrumental Music Boosters Meeting February 9, 2010 The meeting started at 7:00 p.m. The minutes were read and approved. Guard Report The Winter Guard team took 2nd place in their first competition. Good Job! Fundraising Report Craft Fair: We made $12,802.00 which was approximately $2000 more than last year. Barnes & Noble: Jody secured Sunday November 21, 2010 for our next Barnes & Noble fundraiser. Hopefully more friends and family will be able to come. Fruit: Order forms will be given out at the May concert. Jelly will also be available this year. Coffee: We will sell coffee at the May concert. Samples will be given out also. Corporate Sponsors: Bellco Credit Union gave us $250 for the Golf Tournament last year. They asked four of our students to do a photo shoot. The picture appeared on buses around town and in local papers. They gave us $500 for the photo shoot and also gave us an additional $200 this year. Jody will send out letters to about 30 businesses asking for donations. She would like to have names and addresses of other businesses that might help us out. She can be contacted at jodytafoya@yahoo.com with the information. Invesco: Last check came in. Hopefully we will receive a bonus check this year. Jim Whitaker said U2 concerts and other events will be coming to Invesco. ? Music Directors Notes (Tammy Ahmed) Winter Percussion: The Winter Percussion will perform at their first event on Saturday February 13th. They will play for judges. Jazz Band: The Jazz Band played at the Mile High Jazz Band Festival. They played very well. Concert Band: The CBA Concert Band Festival will be held Wednesday March 3rd. They will take sack lunches. Smart Music: Smart Music has been implemented. Everyone needs to do the lessons. Scale Tests: Scale tests have started this semester. One scale per week needs to be done. Concert (February 24th-BCHS Auditorium): The kids are getting ready for the concert. There will be rehearsal on February 23rd (3pm-6pm) for percussion, band, and orchestra. Solo & Ensemble: The final day to sign up is Friday February 26th. If music is written with an accompanist part, the student must have an accompanist. If a student needs an accompanist, contact Tammy Ahmed immediately. The solo & ensemble contest will be Saturday April 24th. Mandatory Disney Meeting (March 9th-7:00pm): There will be a mandatory Disney meeting for all parents and students going on the Disney trip. It will be held from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Please bring health insurance card since forms will need to be filled out. The representative from New Horizons will be there to answer questions. This is on the same night as our next Boosters meeting. The Boosters meeting will start at 8:00pm. Mandatory Disney Rehearsals (March 23rd-26th): There will be four mandatory Disney rehearsals from 3pm-5pm March 23-26. Those students going to Disneyland need to clear all schedules to be at these rehearsals. The Disney trip will be March 28th-April 1st. Disney students also need to be practicing three music pieces which are available on Smart Music. They are: Go West, Lilton Latin, and Russian Sailors. New Pit: Tammy has measurements for the new pit area in auditorium. It needs to have carpet placed on the floors. She needs carpet donations. Let her know if you have anyone that will donate carpet. Registration: 9th & 10th grade registration due February 10th. The 11th & 12th grade registration begins February 11th. Be aware of the name change for Jazz Band.
