Program Description

The Lamont School of Music Summer Pre-College Academy is a stimulating summer music camp for students ages 14 - 18, featuring lessons, chamber music, choir, musical theatre, orchestra and wind ensemble as essential components of the program.

The Academy takes place at the Lamont School of Music's state-of-the- art facilities. It provides students with a broad spectrum of music study, including private lessons, and master classes with renowned faculty, music theory and composition, as well as numerous workshops on topics related to performance study, such asAlexander Technique, careers in music, college auditions, conducting, dance, improvisation, performance preparation, theatrical movement, and World music. This year, the Academy also offers students a chance to explore the surrounding area with Wednesday lunches at area restaurants.

The Academy promotes a positive, inspiring, and unique experience for musicians, with musical and recreational opportunities on and off-campus.  Housing and dining is in a nearby residence hall, with air-conditioned, suite-style rooms featuring double occupancy.  Enrollment includes both residential and commuter options.

SCRIPS

SCRIPS is another fundraiser that doesn't cost a penny, and can put lots of money in your student's account. Businesses pay a percentage of gift cards to your student's music fund with the purchase of their gift cards. The percent of donation varies.

Scrips orders will be sent in on a regular schedule of the 1st and 15th of each month; we’ll increase the frequency as needed during the holiday “gift card” spree.  Click Here for the form to email to me, or print out for hand-written orders.   Click Here for the shopwithscrip.com website for the list of merchants and percentages.

Payments enclosed in a sealed envelope can be dropped off in Tammy Ahmed’s box or contact me (Cheryl Joseffy)

at cj57etal@yahoo. com to arrange for delivery or pick-up.

Please include in the envelope:

· Your name (as person ordering)

· A phone number where I can reach you

· Check or checks made out to BCHSIMP

What to Look For in a Private Teacher

A good high school private teacher should be work with your child on the following concepts:
  • All 12 Major scales - and when more advanced - all forms of minor scales
  • Chromatic scales
  • Etudes specific to the instrument (not just working on music from band or orchestra)
  • Ensemble pieces (they should play duets with their students)
  • Sight reading
  • Alternate fingerings/concepts - which would allow students to perform music smoothly
  • Music theory
  • Embouchure work and range training exercises

Congratulations to our Students
